 Korte omschrijving

INTRODUCTION

Water is life and without it life becomes unbearable.  It is for this reason that communities do participate in environment and water conservation activities.

Water for an institution is an important commodity for the following uses:

  1. Human and animal drinking.
  2. Cooking.
  3. Cleaning
  4. Solvent for various chemicals in the laboratory and in agriculture.
  5. Construction

BACKOGROUND INFORMATION OF BENON SECONDARY SCHOOL

Benon Secondary School was established in the year 2012. The school was born from Benon Primary School which donated 10 acres of land for class rooms, laboratory and administration block construction. Originally the land was under Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) which was later subdivided and used to settle the landless.  The secondary school section was established in order to offer affordable education to the majority of students from poor families. The area has few rivers which occasionally dry up during dry seasons. This means the school and the surrounding community end up suffering a lot during this dry period. It is for this reason that we request for funds to drill a well so that we can have a permanent source of water to use during all seasons.

Objectives of the project

  1. To drill clean water for the school which will also benefit the neighboring communities.
  2. To construct a water tank 100m3 for water storage.
  3. To prevent the prevalence of water borne diseases among the school community.
  4. To save time spent by students in fetching water from springs.
  5. To ensure that students meals do not delay because of shortage of water.

Benefits of the project

  1. Water will be readily available for institutional use.
  2. Water borne diseases will be reduced through embracing proper sanitation.
  3. Money which will be used for treatment of water borne diseases and travel will be channeled to other school projects.

Community participation

The community will participate by providing some of the materials required for water drilling, it will give some amount to settle some of the total cost.
